Maximum Primary Stress Profile Determination

The Maximum Primary Stress Profile is used in the toughness ratio calculation for FAD Assessment. If the "Primary Only Stress Profile" column is left blank, the Max and Min Analysis Case 1 profiles are used as follows:

Max Primary        Stress at each Nodal Point = Maximum (Max Value - Min Value, Max Value, Min Value)

If the "Max Primary Only Stress Profile" column is populated, the software overrides the above selection process and uses this as the primary stress profile. No other profiles are included in defining the primary stresses.

Total Secondary + Residual Stress Profile Determination

The Total Secondary + Residual Stress Profile is used in the toughness ratio calculation for the FAD Assessment. The Total Secondary + Residual Load Profile is determined as follows:

Secondary (Thermal) Only Stress Values + Weld Residual Stress Values

If User indicates that the Analysis Case 1 "Min Stress Profile" contain compressive residual stresses and "Take Credit for Compressive Residual Stresses = Y", then this profile is added to the above expression for the total secondary + residual stress profile.

Treatment of Compressive Residual Stresses

If compressive residual stresses are to be included, then these stresses must be entered in the "Min Load Stress Profile" column (this profile should only contain the compressive residual profile) and also included as a component of the Max Stress Profile. In this case the following should be checked:

If the Max and Min Stress Profiles contain compressive residual stresses and "Take Credit for Compressive Residual Stresses = Y", then the compressive residual stresses, i.e. "Min  Stress Values" for Analysis Case 1, are assumed to remain for the life of the component and the "Min Stress Values" are included in the Secondary + Residual Stress Profile.

If the Max and Min Stress Profiles contain compressive residual stresses and the User selects "Take Credit for Compressive Residual Stresses= N" on the Simulation Definitions Screen then the compressive residual stresses are assumed to relax during life of the component and are not included in the Secondary + Residual Stress Profile.
